Characteristics at the beginning of the time period:

Political: absence of independent government

Social: free and mobile Kievan society. Women still had lesser status than males.
Economic: Struggling to attain strong economic growth

Artistic: Had a few great artworks

Religious: Orthodox Christian


Intellectual: They had decent intelligence before the invasion

Technological: No major technological inventions before the Mongol invasion
Military: Russian princes led the military
Geographic: Look at map below for the geography
Demographic: There weren't any major changes in the population or population density.
Characteristics at the end of the time period:

Russia improved their political structure to prevent future invasions
Women still had lesser status then males

Russia's economy crashed from the invasion but the Mongols also created trade routes
During the Mongol invasion, many great artists
appeared like Theophanes the Greek
Many churches were destroyed during the Mongol invasion but the remaining ones started rising up and spread Christianity around. Still Orthodox Christians
With the yams, they had an established system of communication and intelligence
Yams, which were a system of posts, were constructed

Society: Russia Before/After Schism
Time Period: 1054
Significant Events: Eastern and Western Europe had different forms of Christianity
Characteristics at the beginning of the time period:

Political: No political unity
Social: Eastern Europe had different languages from the West so they couldn't communicate with each other and became strangers.
Artistic: Russian icon painting was not just an art, but a philosophy of colors and also an artistic confession of the searching soul.
Religious: Eastern and Western Europe had the same form of Christianity
Military: Russia was led away from barbarism by the Churches

Characteristics at the end of the time period:

provided political unity
The schism split the society with half of the people Roman Catholics and the other half Orthodox Christians

Christianity in Russia inspired their artists to create beautiful art.

Eastern Europe was Orthodox Christians while Western Europe was Roman Catholic
